To our students and partners across the higher education community:
The Student Basic Needs Coalition is, and always will be, dedicated to supporting students nationwide in pursuing a safe, affordable, and quality higher education. Our commitment to students’ well-being, access to resources, and safety remains as steadfast as ever.
We recognize that the results of the 2024 presidential election results amplify concerns about equity, access, and inclusion for many students, particularly those who have faced historic marginalization, such as LGBTQIA+ students, undocumented students, students of color, and students from low-income backgrounds. As policies and political climates shift, we know that these students often face heightened uncertainty, and we acknowledge the fear and frustration of each new decision that could impact their safety and ability to thrive.
At SBNC, we believe that meeting students’ basic needs—such as food, housing, health, and safety—are essential pillars of educational equity. We remain fully committed to fighting alongside you for the policies and resources that allow all students to succeed despite the challenges posed by the current political climate. Our work will not slow, and we will press forward to expand access to the essential resources that allow you to learn, grow, and succeed.
To every student and partner in our network: we see you, hear you, and stand with you. Together, we will continue to build and advocate for systems that protect and uplift students of all identities and backgrounds. This is a commitment we make not only today but every day, as we work toward a future where every student has the opportunity to flourish in a supportive and inclusive environment.
In solidarity,
The Student Basic Needs Coalition
