We are thrilled to welcome Alexis Newman as the newest member of the Student Basic Needs Coalition (SBNC) team, joining us as our Campus Program Manager. Alexis is our second full-time employee, and we couldn't be more excited about the wealth of experience and passion she brings to the role.
Alexis holds a B.S. in Political Communication with a focus on Leadership, Politics, and Social Advocacy, and is currently pursuing a Master’s in Digital Communication Leadership from Emerson College, where she is also a Transformational Leadership Fellow. Her academic journey reflects a deep commitment to educational equity and justice, which perfectly aligns with our mission to support students across the nation in accessing the resources they need to thrive.
Since 2017, Alexis has been deeply engaged in education, working tirelessly to create accessible pathways for students—especially those from historically marginalized and racialized communities. Her work has always been rooted in the belief that every student should have the opportunity to turn their passion into action, equipped with the advocacy skills necessary to challenge and reshape the systems that impact their educational experiences.
In her role as Campus Program Manager, Alexis will focus on supporting all of our campus chapters, ensuring they have the tools and resources needed to effectively advocate for students' basic needs. She will also take the helm of managing our Momentum Institute program, which empowers student leaders with the training and support they need to become effective advocates for their peers. Additionally, Alexis will oversee our SNAP Into Action program, a key initiative that works to increase SNAP enrollment on campuses, addressing food insecurity head-on.
Her background in political communication and digital leadership will bring a fresh perspective to our work, enabling us to deepen our impact and broaden our reach. Alexis’s strategic approach to leadership, combined with her dedication to social justice, will undoubtedly strengthen our programs and the communities we serve.
We are excited to see the positive change Alexis will bring as we continue our mission to support students in need across the country. Please join us in welcoming Alexis Newman to the SBNC team!
